How the restaurant RUBY TUESDAYS was created

Legends about the creation of this American restaurant does not exist, but from the name it is clear that the opening took place on Tuesday. Americans knew about the "RUBY TUESDAYS" in 1972. Sandy Beall received 10 thousand dollars from his friend for the opening of his restaurant. The founder together with his four brothers opened the first restaurant with the money they received. It was located near the campus of Knoxville.

In 1982, Sendy sold his network (16 establishments) to Morrison Inc. and rescued 15 million dollars. Since that moment, the cafes began to open around the world, competing with such famous brands as McDonald's, KFC, others.

In just ten years, the owners managed to expand their business and open new "points" every ten months. Here the traditions of the American style are sustained, mainly burgers, French fries and nuggets are in the menu. For breakfast, meals are served according to the "buffet" system.

There are several restaurants which can be proud of a history that they made. Their history is very fascinating, enjoyable and colorful. One of them is the restaurant Ruby Tuesdays.

The beginning of the restaurant was rather happy time. The restaurant was founded by an University of Tennessee student named Sandy Beal, in 1972. The name of the restaurant was taken from a song which was the Rolling Stones production. When Sandy Beall was 21-years-aold, he secured $10,000 from Pizza Hut operator and after it he added his own many which was another $10,000 and contributions from brothers.

In that days there was a high-volume concepts restaurant industry called T.G.I. Friday's, which was a quickly full-service brand. That restaurant was the king of the fern bar segment. It focused on young singles who embraced its emphasis on drinks which their parents would never try. Knowing all this Sandy Beall made a decision to open a similar restaurant, catering for the young, but with a different day of the week in its name.

The first restaurant of the company Ruby Tuesday was opened near the Knoxville campus of Beall's university, and after some time it proved that it is very popular and can have sister stores in different places also. But Sandy Beall sold the brand (company) to Morrison's Cafeterias, which was a foodservice brand located in the South of the country, but remained in charge of his brainchild. Sandy Beal sold the brand when the venture hit the 16unit mark. Then they reported the price which was $15 million in cash and stocks in Morrison's. The reason to sell the brand was the fact that Ruby Tuesday's growth began and Sandy Beall realized that the company needed more capital.

In 1989 there were 125 Ruby Tuesday chains.

Since Morrison's had a deep pocket, the brand Ruby Tuesday developed rather quickly. And it became a major along with T.G.I. Friday’s, Chi-Chi's and other companies. And after all this it considered to be a casual dining. Similar to the brands mentioned above restaurant Ruby Tuesday offered a step up to Baby Boomer.

Baby Boomers where people who had grown up on fast food and diner fare.

In 1990s there were provided growth opportunities

The cooperation of Ruby Tuesday and Morrison's lasted 14 years. During that period there were siblings of Ruby Tuesday such as Silver Spoon Café, Mozzarella's and others, which grew. In 1996 Sandy Beall ran them all as CEO of the restaurant group. In that year it became a separate public company (1996)

But it was not a good decision because the single-brand strategy didn't last long. Ruby Tuesday bought an Asian entrant with the name Wok Hay. After this Ruby Tuesday brand started to flag as its clientele aged and stores and markets were really changed.

Ruby Tuesday was nudged considerably up-market. They shifted away from ribs and the salad bars, burgers and else. In restaurant dishware was replaced. There was trendier square plates and also new flatware was adopted.

Besides all this there was an experimentation which included changes in consumer perceptions. Ruby Tuesday developed its items on menu.

After some time Ruby Tuesday restaurant decided to keep its option and turn into a franchise. The consept of becoming a franchise began in 1997.

In 2012 Sandy Beal decided to leave and retired as CEO.
